Forced to choose between military school and a Christian spy organization, Spencer Garmond chooses the spy organization, thinking it's some sort of Bible club. Before he even boards the plane to go on a mission's trip to Moscow, he can tell that it's not a normal Bible study. As time goes on he begins to have strange prophetic visions and gets mixed up with a gang of homeless boys, a mysterious tattoo and a suspicious woman and finds himself in the middle of a mess that he's not sure he can solve. Warning! May be spoilers beyond this point. Positive content:
Spencer is trying to find out if God is real in the way that his friends from the Bible organization are saying. This is very much about finding the gifts that God has given you and using them in a good way. Violent content: There's a bit of biting, clawing, smacking, kicking, etc. There's nothing gory. Some tranquilizer guns. A couple of characters get kidnapped. Language: Spencer curses a lot, but it doesn't clarify the words. For example, it'll say "I called him a few choice names." but nothing worse then that. Sexual content: Anya is rather seductive, flirting with Ryan, Pasha and Spencer, forcing one person to betray their family for her. Nothing major. Other negative content: Spencer admits that he used to be addicted to drugs. He's also kind of disrespectful to everyone. Overall opinion: It was a really interesting book. I was a bit skeptic at first, because I don't normally like this kind of book. I've actually never read a book like this where I've felt so close to the character. There were times I felt like going into the book and smacking some sense into Spencer (seriously, he did some pretty dumb things.) My sisters can testify that I'd exclaim in the middle of nothing. "Oh! He's so stupid!" It was written in such a way that you believed every word and you felt everything Spencer felt. All in all, great job Jill Williamson. Can't wait to get the next one!
