Review: Cooper and his best friends, Gordy and Hiro witness a robbery that leaves a man badly beaten and in a coma. From the conversation they overheard while hiding, they suspect that some of the men who robbed the store may be policemen. Unable to go to the police and with the robbers trying to find them and destroy every last shred of evidence, the trio doesn't know where to turn. Finally they agree to keep silent and wait it out to see if the real criminal will be revealed. They make a pact. A code of silence. Warning! There may be spoilers beyond this point, but I'll try not to reveal much. :) Click 'Read More' if you're willing to risk it. Positive Content:
Hiro is completely against lying and in the end, you realize that all the lies were wrong. It's not depicted in a positive way. Violent content: Frank is beaten and is thought to be dead. Cooper crashes on his bike and sustains minor injuries throughout the novel. Nothing too gory. I wouldn't recommend for kids under the age of thirteen, though. Sexual content: None Language: Mr. Stein says h*** once and then immediately apologizes for the language. Overall opinion: Mr. Shoemaker did a terrific job in bringing out the tension and keeping my heart beating consistently fast. And I was, forgive the cliche, on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was clean and thoroughly enjoyable. And to make it better, I totally didn't see the end of it coming. I was completely surprised.
